These lands may be the fabled land of Incara
If this is true then I am sure there are many legends that come from here and a wealth of rumors true and false. I will head each of these as such so any going through this may understand my notes.
While at the locals firetales one legend struck me as very interesting, It is of the Phoenix King a man who as legends go was simply amazing the story as best i can remember goes like this.
In the years long past before my grandfather's grandfather a man roamed the desert standing against all the Sha Nub tribe. His skin gleamed as if the sun could not touch it, His eyes of brightest blue. He had thestrength of ten men and weilded a pair of swords that was made of pure flame. His arms were the only blemish upon his body for they looked as the blacksmith's dark and heat seared. Gold and crimsion his hair, he stood as tall as a man and a half.
In battle he was a fearome sight spinning and slashing, none could stand before the fury of his blades. Even the Sha Nub god Apophis, Destroyer of the Light. Upon his chared corpse he stood and was consumed by the very flames he weilded, his goal completed. It was told to my grandfather's people that when Apophis returns a time of darkness will overcome the land causing the desert to a light with flaming bringing the return of The Phoenix King.
Several of the locals have refused to let me leave the village at night for fear of the serpent that watches. Traveling at night in this area of the desert is to question the beast power and invite destruction. From what i have pieced together this serpent is long with orange and red scales the only time it appears during the day is a long the sands to the north where some ancient ruins are said to be located.
The locals here tell me of the people of the rainbow sands, fearsome desert warriors called the Isulki. They Guard the secrets of the Sha Nub and may be actual descedants of these great people.
If i am to mount an expidition into the desert to search for the Pheonix King, I must know more about these allusive people.
As I talked to some of the locals, there is a story that keeps coming up. It is about a man that travels the desert. No one knows who he is, but he is spoken with an awe, not unlike that of the Phoenix King. The difference is that they speak of the walker as a man, rather than the legend that is the Phoenix King. Many have seen him, though it is always a story heard second hand. A brother's friend, or a Wife's Nephew. They all say he dresses in thick brown robes. His face is always covered except his eyes with match the color of the sand. He always carried a full water skin, but no other supplies, no camel, no pack, nor anything else to help his survive the waste. Some say that he is quick, like a mirage. One minute he is there, the next he is gone. In all of the story, he has saved a man or woman dying of thirst, or protected them from a jackal or hunting cat. My search for his has found only stories however, but tomorrow that may prove different. A local Camel Herder who lives nearby claims to have seen and spoken to the walker. I traded his son a bottle of good wine, to speak with the man. I will meet him tomorrow at dusk. I hope to find more then. Could this man be the Phoenix King returned, or simply another mirage, so common here in this land.
I have heard of adventurers heading north through the sands to seek a black pyramid. Tales whispper of dark magic long forgotten hidden deep within. I did run into a group of local adventurers who were indeed going to this black pyramid, while they would not take me with them they did promise to return in a week to give me any rubbings and notes on the pyramid. Thier leader Dagon "Full Blade" Tintailia has offered me an exclusive oppertunity to be the first to purchase any thing they bring back including copies of maps they make during thier foray. This oppertunity can not be passed, so I will be spending another week in the town of Ckrit.
The Adventurersare almost a week overdue and I fear for the worst. A local woman with the gift of prophecy has told me that the men are not dead, yet they do not live. Crazy as that may sound. I think she may be right there was an attack on a local warehouse that "Full Blade" was using as a base of operation. All the research notes I have came from what was stored there. I'm leaving town at day break and pressing on. I've arranged for a copy of my journal to be sent home to Magnamar. The Black Arrows have a decent library and may find this information interesting. I will send updated copies as I have the chance. But better to get this few entries secure then to lose all my work in the field.
I have met a northerner recently, he was dressed as a local and knew there language well.
He told me a tale a man a street rat that was trained by one of the desert folk in combat. Some say he returned from the dead as the legends of the Pheonix King states, could this man be the legendary pheonix king. His name is Barig Dante, I have sent word of this to Magnamar in hopes that contacts there would have any idea who this person is. After a few shots of Fire wine, ihe left never to be seen again, the locals call him the AL'Alan, that is roughly translated as he who is looking for god,
When i asked if he was the Pheonix King, they laughed, and said he has only recently has come to the desert.
Still his mastery of the language was unusual, as was his tattoo of a Black Cat on his forearm.
Contacts in Magnamar state that Barig was a hero of Eroth, one of the many masters of a mythical creature called Kithas. He has long since died, millenia ago. the story is unrelated, though one of them stated he did visit the area a few times.
I have wasted enough time chasing dead ends. I will continue preparing for my trip to the next village, though I would like to know more of this AL'Alan, I cannot deter from my quest.
